Believe it or not, Sigiriya is not only a world-renowned ancient rock fortress. Located in the Ancient City of Sigiriya in the Matale district near a town known as Dambulla, this 180-meter-high rock fortress is every traveler’s destination.

After killing his father brutally by walling him up alive, King Kasyapa (477-495AD) built this fortress to protect himself from attacks by the rightful heir to the throne, King Moggallana. Kasyapa killed King Datusena, King Kasyapa’s father, with the help of Migara, the King’s nephew and army commander.

Well known for its magnificent climb & the water retaining structures, frescoes are a splendid attraction as well!
